Mulberry leaves have a variety of culinary, medicinal, and industrial applications. Young leaves can be eaten after cooking. In fact, winter mulberry leaves are taken off the tree after frost. They are considered to have greater medicinal properties.

They are deemed useful for eliminating wind-heat, moistening the lungs, soothing the liver, and for brightening the eyes. It is consumed in the form of tea in several parts of India.

These leaves may reduce high levels of blood sugar and insulin, a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels.

Decreasing inflammation, mulberry leaves can improve heart health by reducing cholesterol and blood pressure levels of our body.

Mulberry leaf contains numerous anti-inflammatory compounds, including flavonoid antioxidants. These antioxidants are said to help neutralize free radicals in our bodies, and this is thought to boost overall health.

Other potential benefits that are yet to be proved are its anticancer effects, improvement in liver health, increase fat burning and promote weight loss and prevention of hyperpigmentation.

But remember that the leaves and other parts of the tree contain a milky white sap called latex. This sap is mildly toxic to humans and may result in symptoms like an upset stomach if ingested or skin irritation if touched. Therefore, it is advised to be careful.
