Ayurvedic self-care tips for winter

Winter is here and we all are to take on a snuggle-up mentality i.e. eat more and do less. But remember that our bodies need some extra love and care during the colder months. Nothing but self-care will help you give yourself the physical, mental, and emotional support you need to thrive throughout the winter season.

Drink golden milk: Drinking turmeric milk every day will keep you safe from nasty cold and flu. Adding other spices like cinnamon powder and cardamom powder in your drink makes it more effective. In general, people consume a lot of tea and coffee to keep themselves warm in winter. But caffeinated drinks do not help you that much.

Stay active: People become lazy and tend to avoid running and exercising during winters. It’s really hard to stay motivated about your health but if you exercise and get your blood pumping, immune cells circulate through your body more quickly, helping them seek and destroy infections.

Massage your body: Winter weather affects our body in more ways than one. While massage is beneficial at all times of the year, there are some specific benefits that can be gained from massage in winter. Massaging with essential oils, sesame oil or mustard oil will keep you warm, help you fight the cold weather and will keep your skin soft and smooth. It also calms your mind, relieves stress and improves the quality of your sleep.

Consume warm food: Our body’s digestive system becomes weak during winters which is why it often asked to consume warm food and avoid cold food as much as possible. Cold food leads to indigestion and other stomach related issues. Eat warm and easy to digest food to stay healthy.
